Start here. The practical basics: how the dyad / triad works, the listener as mirror, monologue style, boundaries. 4:42.

What self-inquiry is (and isnt): not problem-solving, but a landing pad for the diamond guidance. Head / heart / belly. The not-knowing posture. 10:18.

The difference between the edited story we tell socially and the deeper history that actually shaped us. 7:19.

What holds the practice: grounding in presence, the listeners role (no nodding, no mirroring), the value of silence. 5:16.

Recognising subtle essential states and letting inquiry flow spontaneously into daily life. 5:03.

A different format: receive the question, contemplate, articulate what arises. Not about the answer — about activating experience. 2:45.

Real participant questions bring out the subtleties of the practice. Watch after you have the basics. 20:34.

This meditation invites you to settle into the body, sensing the ground beneath you. Allow the attention to move from the head into the belly, into the hara. Notice what is here when you stop reaching for anything.

Settle into the body and let attention drop from the head into the belly. Presence is already here — not something to reach for, but the natural state you return to the moment you stop departing from it.

The White Diamond is the quality of steadfastness: commitment, and surrender to what is. It offers an inner support that does not depend on outer conditions, so you can remain present with any experience — even boredom or pain — without resistance.

"I'd like you to explore the difference between being present and being distracted in your own experience. When I get away from being present, my experience changes — it becomes more flimsy and I feel more tired; and when I come back to being present, I feel more rested, or more capacity to rest. You can even experiment — you can notice now, in the directness of your experience, if that happens. You can even play with it." — 10 minutes each in the groups of three, 15 minutes each in the groups of two.

Brilliancy is the spark of abstract insight; the White Diamond grounds that insight in present reality. Together they form a vast, conscious space in which understanding can manifest.

Settle into the Hara, then let awareness open into the heart center — not looking for content, just the sensations and the affective tone that live there. From there we invoke the green: the capacity of your being to manifest through the heart as tenderness, attunement, and loving kindness. When this quality is present it suspends the operation of the superego — the heart is far more powerful than the judgments.

Guidance is not something outside telling you what to do. It is your own point of light, communicating with the self in a language the ego can understand — so it may arrive disguised as a stranger, a song, something you read. The Sufis say guidance comes in green, because the heart center has to be online for it to reach you. Where the heart was closed in childhood to survive emotional pain, the guidance cannot work.

The meaning this quality brings is not conceptual — it is the state of meaning itself, like sitting in silence with a grandmother at the end of her life, where nothing needs to be done or said. Brought into self-inquiry, it means we are not inquiring in order to fix or eliminate anything. Kindness shows us what is there without pressure to change it, and only then can the hurt unfold and the soul flow.

Questions on whether a closed heart blocks the guidance from coming through, whether any effort is required to stay with emotional pain, and the difference between compassion and loving kindness. Being with hurt is not pushing yourself into it — that becomes the other extreme, the drama, the poor me. The guidance itself will not take you further than you can handle; it simply withdraws.

"Explore your attitudes towards your sense of self — rejecting, accepting. Do you hold on to your sense of self, or do you want to change your sense of self? When you look at the difficult part, the difficulties of your sense of self — especially the hurts, the things that according to the superego are not working — are you trying to cure them, to fix it for the better? Or to manipulate it, to justify it, to ignore it, to get rid of it? Until we look at ourselves as something to fix, the understanding is not going to happen, because it is under the effect of the superego." — 12 minutes each in the group of three, 17 minutes each in the groups of two.

Sharing after the first inquiry. Gratitude for a way of working that brings gentleness rather than harshness toward oneself, and the recognition that the ego was never meant to be killed — the teaching itself came out of seeing that it survives. Anger appears as a defence that covers the emotional hurt and takes over in reactivity. And the image of water: not flowing around the obstacle to avoid it, but going around the rock while still embracing it.

Sharing continues. A fight that morning becomes the discovery that some relationships are existential — part of the operating system, not something you can undo while you are flying the plane. Emilio: where the White Diamond sees through the identification and separates, the green keeps the ego with us. The point walks, and the ego walks alongside, allowed to be as it is, growing through kindness rather than rejection. Extended outward, this becomes the holy city — the village where everyone is allowed to be themselves.

We run from emotional pain because we treat it as though it were physical: if I burn myself I am damaged, so I avoid it. But staying with emotional pain does not damage — it brings more presence, more capacity. And where we stay away from the pain we also stay away from the truth, because the truth was what hurt to hear. The green makes it possible to bear it; the truth then opens the situation in a new way and reveals more of being. A loop between the green and the gold.

"Now we turn towards this part and see if we can give it the care, the green. Let it be with that sense of self exactly as it is. Just attune to it. Try to understand it, rather than look at what you were doing to it — the same way you would be present with a friend who is opening up, when you know you cannot do anything, you don't want to change anything, you just stay with them." — 15 minutes each in the groups of two, 10 minutes each in the group of three.

Sharing after the second inquiry. Surviving a devastating situation by going cold and powerful, and finding that the same power can now be held with an open heart. A child asleep and simply held — the green letting it be, where a false compassion would poke at it to make it better. Feeling only the pain with no green arriving, and recognising the superego as the watcher impatient with the character in the movie. And the discrimination between the robotic part of the ego and the part closer to home — which is the one we reject most.

Settle into the belly and let awareness expand to the heart center, grounded in sensation. Today the meditation invokes the golden aspect of the Diamond Guidance — the innate love for the truth. Not outer truths: the truth that is an essential state, the truth of who you are. Through a living memory of hearing something true, connect to the feeling of being authentic, made of gold, real.

From the green that lets us stay with painful truths, we arrive at truth itself as an essential state — not the ultimate truth of dogma, but the recognition that happens in the heart: the ring of truth. Reading Osho at sixteen was not learning but remembering. The truth cannot be signed up for — it belongs to no group, no teacher; it is between you and you. Like gold, the only metal acid cannot corrode, the truth cannot be contaminated — even a dark truth spoken feels pure. And the truth is you exactly as you are now: nothing missing, nowhere else to go.

Questions on learning versus recognizing; on trusting the ring of truth when we can be deceived; and on how the truth of a moment can change without becoming a lie. The key discrimination: truth as an essential state versus the relative truth of a situation — the content is changeable, the state is not. When the personality capitalizes on a truth and puts it in a box, the truth becomes a lie. Ends with how the aspects interpenetrate: red truth, black truth, the beautiful conspiracy where everything is connected in the truth.

Instructions for the first inquiry, in pairs. Repeating questions, seven minutes each person per question. First question: "Tell me what is like when you experience something untrue?" Second question: "Tell me a way your heart knows the ring of truth." We know the untrue side too — someone lies and we feel it, we just know. Take out the ring if you like: how does your heart know the truth?

Sharing after the first inquiry. The untrue feels restless and searching, while the truth brings ease, ground and stillness — presence instead of reaching. The Sufi story of the Land of Truth: the man who chose truth over well-being. And an exploration of truth and time — how something true then can stop being true, while the one who recognizes the truth, the point of light, remains.

Sharing continues. Staying with confusion and finding that confusion itself is true — it is what is happening. The trap of believing the truth is only one, and how discussion loops and even wars start there. The first question was activating for some: the felt contrast between untruth and truth can reach the body as restlessness, even panic.

Instructions for the second inquiry, in pairs. First part, monologue, ten minutes each: explore your conditioned mind around truth — the ideas and beliefs you absorbed about what truth is and should be, from your family, your culture, your gender, whatever shows up. Second part, repeating question, ten minutes each: "Tell me how you feel to land in the truth of your experience."

Sharing after the second inquiry. Landing as a physical experience — the body responding, the will exercised to feel what I really want and where I stand. A life journey from inherited beliefs through communities and teachers to the place where there was no one left to look up to, and the integration of so many aspects of one's own truth — natural, joyful, empowered. The meeting closes with the joy of new people joining the group.

After the gold, we turn to the ground it stands on: the depth of being, the absolute. Narcissism here is not a character flaw — it is the side effect of being disconnected from that depth, so the self has to be held up by activity, mirroring, a construct. Integrating the depth is not splitting off from ordinary life. The ego becomes an interface instead of a mask: forms arise from the ground and return to it. Surface without depth is empty effort; depth that includes the surface is home.

Questions on whether the absolute is the deep blue of the work; on boundless dimensions that appear only after the ground is recognized; and on how hard it is to talk about nothing. Concepts give the absolute a form — deep blue, black, pure awareness, divine love — each a frequency of the same base. The deep blue can take you there, and it is not the only door. Ends at the edge of the first inquiry.

Instructions for the first inquiry, in pairs. Two repeating questions, nine minutes each person per question. First question: "What is right about not living in your depth?" Second question: "Tell me where you experience your depth." The first looks at resistance — the belief that staying on the surface is safer or more appropriate. Don't think about it too much.

Sharing after the first inquiry. For some the first question was only argument — nothing right about not living in the depth — while the second brought meaning, synchronicity, less filter. Others met the practical question: is modulating language at the front desk skillful means, or a subtle split from the depth? The inquiry stays open. Depth can come through ordinary speech without being abandoned.

There is no need to drop the depth when the personality is in use. Even the most superficial shape in the supermarket can still be the depth — surface and depth are not two places. The ego's difficulty is forgetting, because childhood took us out of it. The mind's job is to serve: feel the heat, the expansion, inquire, then understand. Not to already know. The first question was looking for the belief that in certain rooms we have to leave the depth behind.

Are there gradations of depth? The bottom is nothing at all, non-being; then the absolute shows in different frequencies. We keep it simple: not three years in a cave for divine love, but depth in the marketplace. Surface without depth is alienation; depth without surface is dissociation. Daily life pulls us out. The work is to bring them together — the mystery becoming a person without letting go of the mystery.

Instructions for the second inquiry. Monologue, groups of three, fifteen minutes each. Explore how it is being the depths. Not a repeating question this time — stay with the experience of being the depth, in sensation, in the heart, in the not-knowing.

Sharing after the second inquiry. Depth is not underneath — it is through everything, like an infusion. We do not connect and disconnect from it; the connection is our nature, whether we see it or not. Feeling disconnected from something it is impossible to leave is the paradox of the work. The meeting closes: the depth was never gone. We are remembering it.

Continues from Meeting 20. The depths of being, and being ourselves — not the reactive identity.

Narcissistic manifestations as a missing fullness. Integrate the surface; do not split it off.

Titi: the more we recognize the deep, the less we need people around as props.

Life and work pull us to the surface. New-age rejection of narcissism makes a bigger split.

Suzy: ego in touch with depth. Longing is for the depth; the ego relaxes when connected.

Repeating question, pairs: Tell me a way you get entangled on the surface.

Sharing after the first inquiry.

Sharing: entanglement at work and with family.

Sharing: wisdom, compromise, recognition.

Narcissistic manifestations as a symptom of disconnection from the depths.

Inquiry: explore the way you are spontaneous while meeting the world on the surface, still connected.

Fidan: is this presence? Kindness as letting being show, not imitation.

Sharing after the second inquiry — getting out of the way, oneness.

A short grounding meditation to open the meeting — unusual for this group, but a few minutes to settle after a scattered morning of links and distractions, and to come back into being before the material.

The Great Betrayal. Born into a family that could not see or mirror the point — not through their failure but by design, since otherwise there would be no journey — we feel betrayed. Then we join them: we drink the water of the family, comply, accommodate, and so betray ourselves, until the accommodation hardens into behaviour we take to be who we are. Even rebellion is a form of it. Beneath the pattern is the wound of the disconnection from the point, which we defend because feeling it hurts, and which the superego turns into guilt, shame, deficiency or strategy. Even asking "how do I reconnect?" becomes part of the same loop.

Dialogue with Prema on whether one can knowingly accommodate while still coming from the point. The personality cannot do the point — but the point can do the personality. When the point shows up, the personality responds, is recognised, healed, transformed. Approached from the personality alone we never arrive; approached from the point, the personality itself can be loved and changed.

Questions on staying with the point rather than dwelling on the wound. Noticing the emotional tone that arises — the pull to fix it — and the discrimination between being oneself and being the reflected part. The personality is the issue, but it is only an operating system; it is not us. The group is not here to point fingers at each other's material, but to be here together in their points.

"A very light inquiry into the point." Deliberately kept light — not dwelling in guilt, and not turning reconnection into another strategy, since adding strategies is not the solution. — 20 minutes each.

Sharing after the inquiry. Memories of childhood and a sister as a marker of what it feels like not to leave oneself; the qualitative difference of that simply joyful state; and what each person found when they approached the point lightly rather than working at it.

A short grounding meditation to open the meeting. Settle, relax, and come into the sense of who you are — not as the point, and not as the identity, but as the wider field that you are. That field is personal: it is uniquely you, even where it seems impersonal.

The pearl is the personal essence — the one aspect that is both universal archetype and utterly personal. The point enters the pearl and develops the unique person we are; where the ego has the personality as its instrument, the point has the pearl. The pearl gains its capacity to function by digesting the ego: what is real is metabolised and kept, what is false is discarded, so that the structures we once copied from a parent become available to our own point.

There is one pearl we cannot tolerate. A quality we may never have experienced, or reject and feel conflict with when we do — a pearl that is not ego-syntonic. Until that quality is integrated we cannot integrate the pearl as a state at all, because rejecting the quality means rejecting the person of essence. Faisal calls the disconnection from it the personality line: it runs through every vehicle, not only the pearl, so the same colour becomes difficult in the diamond and everywhere else.

Questions on the personality line: whether it maps onto the Enneagram fixation (it relates, but it is not a fixed system — Faisal has not found one), whether it could be a combination of qualities, and how to recognise it. The clue is the reaction: what we cannot stand in others, what we judge or run from, and what we cannot accept being ourselves. The superego is busy there, but the ego is also simply afraid of the quality it cannot handle.

The traditional teaching of the pearl, the Hymn of the Pearl: a princess is sent from a holy kingdom into the world and forgets her royal nature, wearing a robe that carries the essential qualities she was given. Teaching is sent so she can remember; she wakes to her nature and becomes the princess again, holding the pearl beyond price. What is striking is the image of the point fertilising the pearl, so that the point has an essential body that can function, create, and manifest in the world.

"What I cannot stand. Think of someone whose way of being you really cannot stand, in your life or anywhere. What is it about them exactly? Be specific. Now turn it around — could that very quality, the one that irritates you so much, be something you don't allow yourself to have, or don't let yourself see in yourself? What would it mean if that were your missing pearl?" — 15 minutes each, first part only.

Sharing after the inquiry. The red annexing the gold, and the tangle of narcissism, neediness and being right; recognising a quality in oneself by way of the reaction it provokes in others. Emilio draws the threads back to the pearl and the personality line, and to what it means that the quality we cannot tolerate is the one holding the whole integration in place.

A short landing meditation to open the meeting. Arrive, settle, and reconnect before continuing the exploration of the pearl — the personal essence — after the previous meeting's work on the personality line.

After the personality line, Emilio opens the exploration of the pearl. Traditions differ on whether we must build it or are born with it as potential; he holds both views as inspiration rather than dogma. Almaas calls it personal essence; Faisal stresses personalness — the capacity to be a person. The pearl works by inclusion: like a Persian stew, it brings split parts together (red and gold, autonomy and merging) into one living whole.

Rewinding to the beginning: being is born, and the pearl's first movement builds the ego so we can live in family and society. The traditional white pearl is the essence of adaptation and development. Digestion metabolises ego structures copied from parents — what is false falls away, what is true remains usable by the point. Masks become ways of showing up, not hiding. The pearl is the bridge between spirit and psyche; Faisal's essence of being a person is the human meeting of mystery with mystery.

Prema asks about the difference between the Point of Light and the pearl. The pearl is the embodiment — the container where qualities find each other and are lived. The point is the pure I, the monad, which can fall asleep inside the ego; responsibility stays with us, not "my ego did it." Digestion is how the point wakes inside patterns. Personalness is the capacity for contact that includes all of me and all of the other.

Susie asks about the white essence: white is individualised support for incarnation — learning and adapting. The pearl shares that adaptability; unlike a fixed colour, it can become everything. Stopping the ego to sit in being is white work, but the pearl is surrender rather than building new machines. There are many pearls beyond the traditional white. The Sufi image: mother-of-pearl grows around a speck of grit — the difficulties of life develop the flesh of the point. An older person has more pearl through digestion and integration.

"Tell me your relationship with personalness. Do you struggle with it? Is it difficult for you to be personal with somebody? Some people are very personal — you talk to them and you feel it. With others you may meet friendliness on the surface but a strange boundary underneath. What is your relationship with being personal? How is it for you to be personal?" — 15 minutes each, first part only.

Sharing after the inquiry into personalness. Students speak to chaos and life as nourishment, to acceptance of what arises, and to the pearl's capacity to move from hiding to showing oneself in a way others can hear. Emilio draws the thread: personal connection, village simplicity, and point-to-point meeting — including Faisal's story of being lost near Armeno and calmed by ordinary people at a bar.

The pearl as the aspect that brings split and opposite parts together as one person. Conceptual understanding supports living recognition; it is not a substitute for the experience.

Ego autonomy is “I do it alone, without needs.” Essential autonomy is being myself — original, spontaneous — even when I have needs and cannot function alone. The point is potential uniqueness; the pearl is that uniqueness lived.

The pearl is not a destination to achieve. It includes what is here now, including habits and judgments. Stuck coping positions can be metabolized so more of oneself can be original, including need and heartbreak.

Automatic function can be useful; losing the capacity to do things alone is the ego’s nightmare, not the loss of being a person. The same work takes a different form in a Japanese psyche than in a Western one.

Four aspects of the pearl: autonomy, beingness, personalness, contactfulness. Today’s piece is autonomy as the freedom to be as I am — not a position against someone else.

Short setup for the first inquiry. Fifteen minutes each.

Sharing after the inquiry: independence, copying the West, and the split that is not whole.

Sharing: survival autonomy, family story, and the pearl as “I am this and more.” Close: continue piece by piece, digesting the pearl.

Dear friend, Welcome, and thank you for saying yes to this work. These few pages of preparation are simply here to help you arrive a little more grounded and open. The Red is the energy of aliveness and strength — the raw vitality that lets a person stand on their own two feet, meet life directly, and be who they truly are. It is the force behind courage, self-assertion, and the capacity to say a real "yes" and a real "no." Much of our work with the Red begins with what covers it: the ways we have learned to hold back, to please, to collapse, or to turn our fire into reactivity and anger. As we meet these honestly, the same energy that was bound up in defense becomes available as genuine strength — solid, warm, and alive. At the retreat we will move together through meditation, teaching, and self-inquiry, with time to share in small groups. You do not need any special preparation or prior experience — only a willingness to be honest with yourself and gentle with what you find. To arrive ready, I would suggest watching the videos in this course beforehand, at your own pace — the model of the psyche, the sensing meditation, and the introduction to self-inquiry. They will give you the map and the basic practices we will use, so our time together can go deeper, sooner. Come rested if you can. Bring your curiosity. The rest we will discover together. With love, Emilio

Day 1 morning — the child's story: essence surrendered to keep the connection, without blame. The two names, essence and personality, given after the story. The conversion: personality as interface, not impostor. The panorama, one breath per lataif. The turn: we begin with Red because Red is how you begin anything. Sandra's aliveness — I can, the tape loop, the fire blanket, the biggest risk is being fully ourselves.

Day 1 morning inquiry after the child's story. The biggest risk is being fully ourselves.

Day 1 afternoon — where the Red thins. Capacity (I can / I cannot, compartmentalised). Initiative (the one who never starts, the one who always does). Discrimination (the Red in the mind, what makes a real no possible). Door: holding back — where you say yes and mean no.

Door: holding back — where you say yes and mean no.

Real strength shown through nature, the panther. How it is lost — imitation, not absence. The catalogue: body, mind, capacity, heart, relationship, superego, culture, and the accommodating form. The turn: weakness is also a position, equally rigid. Door: your own form and its price.

Door: your own form and its price. Pretend strength, pretend weakness.

Three kinds: conscious, defensive, unconscious accommodation. Edges not walls. The small violations. Negative merging, one sentence. Door: what you cannot separate from.

Door: what you cannot separate from.

Repress or discharge, and the third possibility: feel the energy itself. Door: anger as the guard at the hole — it points backward to what it protects.

Door: anger as the guard at the hole. It points backward to what it protects.

The two identifications. The surround — weakness comes before the absence. The paradox — what we are most identified with we can least feel directly. Where it was surrendered: who could you not be strong with. Door: a hole resisted is deficiency, a hole allowed is space.

Door: a hole resisted is deficiency, a hole allowed is space. Where strength is missing.

Congestion, investment, luggage, one wound, the worlds each shape makes, only space changes it, not pushing but inquiring. Door: the inquiry itself is the Red.

Door: the inquiry itself is the Red. The bag, the dress, the persona.

The superego: what it is for, message versus attack, how you know it is happening in the body, how to disengage. Then showing up itself — the ego individual versus the essential one, touching and being touched. The body: music, stillness. The initiation.

A way you do not show up. A way you show up.

23 June 2026. Continuation (~28 min): discussion, individuality bridge, closing. Same session as Part 1.

11 July 2026 (~57 min). Continues from Harmony into individuality / 個性. Trimmed pre-session chat. Daso called this the final intro before the Foundation course.

Welcome to the first Foundation meeting. The teaching is precise; the big picture comes later. Please ask when something is not clear — the inner judge (super ego) will try to hold questions back. Session shape: meditation, teaching, self-inquiry, then sharing.

Guided sit: attention to the belly (sensing, not thinking), then an invocation of black luminosity — dark, transparent, like a moonless night sky — descending through the head, heart, and belly. Quiet mind, peaceful heart, magnetic still belly. If the quality does not appear, that is all right.

Today’s quality is the Black: the essence of peace and power, the power of silence, the sacred stillness of a temple. Introduced together with our individual journey as the child: the human being arrives as pure being, no thinking yet, presence already complete. There is a person, but no ego structure. As we grow we forget who we really are and become somebody else — personality / ego, which we also need in order to live.

Thinking happens all day inside a field of silence we stop noticing. It is not random: a movie, a story, the inner judge, what people will think. Out of that we build ego identity — a persona from family, society, and history — and it takes the foreground over the being we were born as. We go looking for that stillness in the night sky, the temple, the forest, and forget it is ourselves.

When you look for peace and stillness you are looking for your essential nature. The work is not to eliminate thinking or ego, but to bring them together with being: think when thinking is needed, rest in being when it is possible. A shift of identity from the historical story to the depth. Black is not a philosophical idea — heart, body, and mind can perceive it directly.

Inquiry in groups of three, 10 minutes each, timed by the group. Monologue, not conversation: listeners hold the space and do not interfere. This is exploration, not assessment, and not a story about your ideas. Question (verbatim): Talk and explore your experience of inner peace and silence in your life, inner and outer. Describe the feeling and the state itself, not only the memory of the fact.

Sharing after the first inquiry. Akiko: remembering connection, inner and outer peace at a retreat. Emilio: it is always here if we remember; stillness even in a busy market. Orie: re-experiencing peace while sharing, and the pain of losing it in daily life — needing to accept the part that is not peaceful. Emilio: be at peace with all parts; do not push the stressed part away. Teaching: when we contemplate a quality it responds and comes toward us — one step toward being, three steps back.

Yuki: childhood feeling, then the inner judge calling it childish and sealing it down. Emilio: that voice cannot be trusted when it is time to include the essential dimension. Mami: closet / dark places — fear and also choosing darkness; then womb, warmth in the hara. Emilio: invoking a quality can bring the memories that lived in that state; psychological material is how we work. Another student: a somatic stillness never felt before, not conceptual. There is a depth the conceptual mind cannot go.

Closing. Ten minutes felt short; later the group can revisit inquiry from being rather than everyday relationship. Recordings are for review. Inquiry is the students’ part of the work — like talking to a best friend, you understand yourself by speaking. Daso: useful to do the inquiry again later, before the next meeting, not tonight. See you next time.

Short recap of the first meeting. We arrive as being, already present, before an ego structure. Ego and the capacity to relate to others are not the enemy — they are needed for a human life. In developing them we forget the deepest part of ourselves. The spiritual journey is the wish to come back to that.

Mohani: can we meet our true nature only in stillness and meditation, or also while enjoying life — painting, music, ordinary activity? Each quality is met in a different way. Black is the one most easily lost when life is busy, and it shows when we slow down and let things pass. Inquiry, meditation, and actually living work together. Sometimes a quality is already here and we give the credit to the situation.

Mohani asks why inquiry matters. Joy with friends, or peace while walking in a forest, gets attributed to the friend or the forest — or to a memory, such as walking there with one's father. Inquiry is how we come to see that the quality is inside us, so it is not only available in that place. The two listeners amplify attention; alone, we drift. We also learn from each other. Sometimes nothing much happens, and that is part of it.

Rashmi: is it better to inquire for longer, or more often? Longer than ten minutes — fifteen or twenty is usually best — and it can also be frequent, because this is an ongoing process. The same question is a different experience every time.

Orie: a busy life, and a work call just before the meeting, keeps covering the peace she is looking for. She is not meant to enter the inquiry already demanding to find peace — start from the noise that is actually there. A practical boundary helps (phone off half an hour before), and the more the peace is lived, the less a call throws us. She also tried meeting a difficulty in a more relaxed way, and found more emotion, tears, and a sense of the body opening, with quiet still somewhere in the body. Being present does not make things easier. Under the usual tension there was feeling she had been pushing past, the way her mother used to take her hand and keep going. What she is doing is the work.

After the pairs. Rashmi missed the breakout room and Yuki came back in the middle. What stayed with her was the inquiry making a feedback loop between the two people, a kind of synchronicity.

Mohani has been feeling inner peace, and at the same time her body is not well. If the heart is at rest, why is the body unwell — does real peace need heart and body together? Spiritual experience does not fix everything, and it does not take away the difficulties of life. Practice can make the emotional life more exposed, not less: without feeling we would not be human, and one can be more at ease while the feeling is still there. What is here now is the real state.

Chako: the speaking time was over almost at once, and the question took her somewhere she had not planned — the tea room in her grandmother's house. Sensing that place brought quiet. Because black was the theme, it connected with a black tea bowl and the black of lacquer. This is how inquiry works on a person. The sense of the black bowl comes down.

End of this catch-up. Next time a catch-up is needed, set aside an hour and a half. As much as possible, come to the scheduled meeting with the whole group.

Sit: closed eyes, awareness at the Hara. Stay with sensation, not the train of thought. When you notice you are lost, come back. Rest in being here.

Recap of last time: we arrive as simple peaceful presence. Growing up we learn to become a person and forget that original being. We then look for peace in outer conditions — it works only sometimes.

The baby starts in undifferentiated experience with mother. Two essential qualities in that field: pink — appreciative love — and gold — merging love.

The first I is made of me-and-mother in merging. At the heart, two melt into one. We have not yet been separate.

That memory of merging shows up in love songs, romance, even coming home to a pet. Two disappear into one — the drive to find ourselves in the other.

We hide our differences to keep the unity. We do not have to stay merged with others to be ourselves. Paradox: we look for autonomy in the merging.

Love can remain even when a relationship is over, even when we do not see the person. It is not only conditional on being together. Kindness toward the ego that is confused.

If there is no response, does love dry up? If the relationship was projection of this love, finding it in ourselves may change whether we go back to that person.

Unconsciously looking for myself in the other. The honeymoon is the memory of melting love with mother. When it ends we think the love depended on the other — it did not.

Is oneness with mother universal? Even when mother did not feel sweet, there is often a good-enough other — babysitter, grandmother, neighbor — and love already received in the womb.

Inquiry: Where in your life do you still look for that love, and what do you give up of yourself to get it?

Sharing: a close friend, waves of old emotion, the merged state with no boundary — me and the other lost.

Sharing: in the original state there is no sense of me doing it, no achievement. When we are in touch with ourselves we still manifest, but from being, not from ego.

A big subject. Do not let the inner judge give you a hard time — we all have these issues. More kindness toward ourselves. No wrong places.
